Museumsplatz 1/5, 1070 Wien
The Museumsquartier is a cultural complex combining the baroque buildings of the old Summer Riding School with contemporary architecture. It comprises a variety of cultural institutions, ranging from the Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna (MUMOK) to the Kunsthalle Wien and the Leopold Museum. The Quartier 21, hosts a variety of smaller cultural institutions, open to the public. Also of interest might be a couple of shops, mostly run by Vienna´s young creatives. We recommend to visit the following institutions or museums:

Kunsthalle Wien
Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Wien

The Kunsthalle is Vienna´s largest exhibition venue for international contemporary art. In addition to the larger exhibition space at the Museumsquartier, there is a smaller project space at the Karlsplatz nearby.

Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Wien
The MUMOK´s collection comprises modern and contemporary art, focussing on American Pop Art, Fluxus, Wiener Aktionismus and Minimal Art. The presentation of the collection is in steady flow- check their website for current shows and activities, such as lectures.

Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Wien

Stubenring 5, 1010
This design museum mainly houses a collection of furniture from baroque to contemporary design, with a dazzling (and beautifully presented) variety of Thonet chairs. In addition, large-scale international contemporary art shows are presented in the rear part of the museum. MAK´s own library features a cozy reading room and is open on Sundays.

Sammlung Albertina
Albertinaplatz 1, 1010
The Albertina rightly claims to house one of the largest and most valuable collections of graphic art in the world, dating back to the 200-year old collection of Duke Albert of Sachsen-Coburg. The emphasis is on Old Masters Drawings ranging from Dürer and Michelangelo to Rembrandt and Rubens. The Modern Collection includes drawings by Manet and Cezanne as well as Austrian Modern Classics Klimt, Schiele and Kokoschka.

Friedrichstraße 12, 1010
Visiting the Secession is treading classic Austrian Avantgarde ground. The "Association of Visual Artists Vienna Secession" was founded in 1897 as the world´s first independent artists´ gallery. Joseph Olbrich´s stirking white cube building was completeted a year later. The Secession is still exlusively artist-run, with a very ambitious exhibition programme of international contemporary art.

Museumsplatz 1/5, 1070 Wien
The Künstlerhaus is focussing on architecture, interdisciplinary theme-exhibitions and international cooperations. Great group shows, fantastic examples of exhibition architecture, such as the propellerz ( contributions to the "stealing eyeballs" and "fast forward" shows.
